The Birth of a Hipster Dad

The first time I saw him….

I noticed him years before we met.  A single flash of a memory, what he was wearing, walking so proud with his chest out like he does.

look at that STUD

Little did I know that his chest would be where I laid my head some nights, or where our daughter would catch her first worldly nap, brand new to her human experience.

Anyone that knows the story of Tom and I knows it was a whirlwind in the beginning months, we were inseparable.  No one had ever treated me like a princess like he did. Luckily, that royal treatment would come in handy, because 7 months into our relationship we found out we would be having a little princess of our own.

baby announcement
Our announcement: “We are excited to announce our family is growing by 2 feet”. Winnie wasn’t sure what was going on.

We told Tom’s parents pretty early on, we felt like we couldn’t get away with it for long since they lived close to us.  A few weeks later we let my family in on the news.

We’ll never forget what telling my parents on FaceTime was like.  Since they lived in Germany we had to call them to tell them.  I couldn’t wait any longer.

They were about to head out with a big group of friends and asked if they could call us later, to which I said NO!  Tom was sitting behind me, nervously running his hand through his hair over and over.  My mom even asked if he was OK at one point (ha, barely). When we told them that they were going to be grandparents, a look of shock followed, and then their group of friends erupted in cheers and started high-fiving each other and congratulating my parents.  Their shock quickly turned to excitement. Even though I wish we could have told them in person, that was the next best thing.

Winston loving life and helping us prepare for parenthood.

We were showered in love from the moment we found out about our little human.  We had a wonderful baby shower here in Phoenix, and then my amazing Florida family pulled together to fly us out to Tampa and shower us in more love and gifts.  Blessed doesn’t begin to describe how fortunate we are to have them!

Ybor city for some cubano sandwiches and cigars.

Tom was the best, glowing daddy to be.

Less than 2 weeks before we met our tiny human.

The morning of February 20th, 2015 had arrived and we found ourselves prepping to have a baby.  Tom was totally composed and calm….see?

new father
This is Tom’s “I’m about to be a dad” face. Or maybe he was imitating the lion on his shirt?

About an hour after that picture was taken, we had a tiny human in our arms, ready to be our little sidekick in this adventurous life of ours.

Could this get any sweeter?

One proud daddy.

Over 2 years have passed and the memories are already abundant.  The years already fleeting.

I recently read something so true about being a parent…..

“The days are long, but the years are short.”

Ain’t that the truth?

Tom has taught me a lot about being a kinder and more loving person.  I hope Clara grows up knowing how loved she is.

This photo embodies the essence of a hipster dad.

Tom, I hope you never for one moment doubt how amazing you are, and how important you are to your girls.

The most handsome man.

Thank you for being you.  Thank you for being the best daddy to our little girl that I could have ever dreamed of.  Thank you for the hours and hours of back rubs that I’m terrible at returning.  Thank you for wiping Clara’s little baby tears, and for the endless hours of play.  Thank you for looking at us like we are the most beautiful girls in the world.

Stopping in to ruze for yummy treats.
We clean up nicely every so often.

Happy Father’s Day to our favorite hipster dad. We love you so DA MUCHES!

If you’re a dad, I hope you have the best day ever!  If your dad is still around, give him a call and tell him how much he means to you.  If your dad is no longer here, do something this weekend to honor him.

And if you’re MY dad, know that I love you so very much.  We can’t wait for you to come home to us in the next few weeks.

I will always be your little girl. <3

Sending you sunshine,
